Meet Wenning Dai

Wenning Dai
Executive Director
Nomura Greentech, London, UK

Why did you decide to join Nomura Greentech?

I was inspired by the people I met: they are super smart, driven and caring. Nomura Greentech is leading the energy transition by advising innovative startups and incumbents that are decarbonizing the core systems and infrastructure around the globe. I was thrilled to be part of that momentum.

What’s more, as someone who’s concerned about climate change, Nomura Greentech’s focus on sustainability resonates with me. It was a no-brainer for me to join the firm.

What’s your experience been so far?

One word – amazing. I was given a lot of responsibilities from Day 1, became a staffer in Month 6, attended the global offsite in San Diego and have worked on many exciting projects in low carbon infrastructure, water and the circular economy.

In EMEA, we have 30 bankers in London plus 20 in Zurich, supported by dual hatted country bankers across the region. We are a global team and work seamlessly with our colleagues in Americas and Asia, covering 12 segments focusing on energy, transportation, food and water, waste and materials, and industry.

How would you describe the culture of the firm?

From the very beginning, I was encouraged to speak up, contribute ideas and make a difference.

My manager has an open door policy – I can pop into his office any time, raise any points and get feedback on the spot.

At Nomura Greentech, we live and breathe teamwork. I know every company talks about teamwork, but here it is a true focus and we take it to the next level – this is how we stay connected, make the best of everyone’s talent and collectively deliver the best outcome for our clients.

What do you like most about your role?

We are playing a constructive role in the global energy transition, we are at the forefront of all the green technologies and together we are helping shape the future. What could be better than that? To me this isn't just a job. It is a role with positive social impact, and that is profoundly self-gratifying.

What’s the career progression like?

Very well structured, and you are supported at every step along the way.

We have comprehensive training programs starting from the 2 month summer program in New York. We also run in-team training sessions throughout the year. Our mantra is we are always learning.

In addition, we have a mentorship program. I have two mentors, one in London and one in San Francisco. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them.

One thing I’ve noticed is when you are truly valued, trusted and supported, you feel empowered and want to do your best - career progression naturally follows.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I am passionate about what I do. I am working hard and having fun. What is my career aspiration? Onwards and upwards at Nomura Greentech for years to come!
